Exclusively for the Oberchessler

The Glutz Manufactory cast the bell that set the tone for the Solothurn Oberchessler. The Honolulu Fools’ Guild was also involved in casting the impressive Oberchessler bell during the November full moon.

Chesslete

The Chesslete parade – one of Solothurn’s cultural assets

The Chesslete parade – a long-standing tradition
Bells and noisy instruments have been used in Solothurn for over 135 years to chase what is left of winter away from the town. On Dirty Thursday (the first day of the carnival), participants meet early in the morning, all dressed in nightgowns, pointy hats and red neckerchiefs. At 5 am, once the Oberchessler (the leader of the carnival) has given the signal, the festivities start, the noise ringing through the city’s streets.

Jürg Parli – an illustrator who made Solothurn his home
Jürg Parli was born in St. Moritz and lived in Solothurn from 1963 onwards. In addition to his work as an art teacher, Jürg Parli made a name for himself with his illustrations. His characters are unmistakable. Jürg Parli repeatedly designed Solothurn’s carnival badges over the years, and even created the illustrations for the Chessler bell shortly before his death in 2021.

The Glutz Manufactory – anything but standard
Glutz is your one-stop shop – whether you require antique or modern fittings, or customised and original art casting. In addition to fittings and art casting, the Glutz Manufactory also produces bells with the purest tone – according to experts and collectors, at least. With the Solothurn Chessler bells, the Glutz Manufactory casts bronze Parli keepsakes, adding a touch of craftsmanship to the creations.
